At Shoppe Object Paris, we spoke with the founders about the city they call home, the shops they return to in Paris and the brands that caught their attention at the Salon.
Tell us about your store and what makes it unique?
We opened our first shop 13 years ago, and today we have two stores with more than 100 brands. Around 90% of them are local, although if there’s an international brand we really love, we’ll bring it into the store too. We work across many different categories, from illustration and decoration to clothing and accessories. What makes the store special is that strong local focus, together with our love of design and colour. We really love colour, and it’s something that comes through in the store.
How would you describe the personality of your city?
Barcelona is very creative, very open and Mediterranean at the same time. There’s a strong design culture everywhere, from architecture and functional design to the smallest objects. It’s also a very friendly city. You can go from the mountains to the city and then to the beach. You can cycle from one side of the city to the other. That energy is something we try to bring into our stores.
What’s your favourite place to go when you come to Paris?
We’re very much into shops. Even before we had our own store, whenever we travelled, we always wanted to visit shops. Colette was a big reference for us. It was almost a Mecca for us and for people who loved shops and design. We also love Merci. Le Marais is our favourite neighbourhood because it reminds us of El Born in Barcelona, where we live and where our shops are. We also like finding a good café for a matcha and walking along the Seine.
What caught your eye at Shoppe Object Paris?
We were really happy to see so many Spanish brands. We even discovered some that we didn’t know before. Moglea was a favourite. We had been following them on Instagram for a long time, so it was great to finally see the brand in person and meet the couple behind it. We also loved seeing Octaevo, a Barcelona brand we’ve worked with for 13 years. Vitra was another highlight. We liked the mix of very established brands alongside smaller, newer ones. It felt quite similar to our own store, where you can have well known names alongside people who are just starting out.
We also liked the scale of the Salon. There was a lot to discover, but it wasn’t overwhelming. Coming back for a second look made a real difference. The first day can be a lot of input, but once you’ve seen everything once, you start noticing things you missed the first time.
What would bring you back to Shoppe Object Paris?
We’d come back to see new things and continue discovering brands that surprise us. Some of them we had already seen on Instagram, but seeing them in person is completely different. We’d also love to see the Salon continue to grow. It has already gone from around 30 brands to 100, and that means there’s even more to discover. For us, that’s what makes it interesting: coming back and finding something we weren’t expecting.
