“I am an assembler. I gather materials, I test things, I compose, I start again… but I never draw” she tells us between two appointments at Elements, Bijorhca’s space dedicated to jewelry supplies. Once an exhibitor, she now attends as a buyer, with a renewed pleasure for the trade show’s many surprises, which each season fuel her creative process built on contrast and opposition.
From series to one-of-a-kind
« Back when I worked in series, I would choose a theme or a material for each collection, such as Moroccan craftsmanship, engraved plexiglass, gold plating… I had corners at the Printemps and Bon Marché, but the passion wasn’t quite the same.”
By trading these sales points for an e-shop and a showroom, she returned to a more spontaneous way of working, both in her store and at Bijorhca. While wandering the aisles, she keeps her eyes open for a nice pearl or a striking color, filling her suitcase with instinctive crushes.
“A designer is a visual person. I need to be here because I need to see and to touch. A walk around the trade show is enough to visualize how different elements can combine. I could buy online but it doesn’t have the same appeal, especially since some suppliers can only be found here.”
Bijorhca, where creativity abounds
Once back in her workshop, Miss Back tailors her designs to the needs and desires of her clients. They can always request different lengths, or swap an earring post for a clip. In tune with the South of France, her next summer collection will be all about shiny colors. They will surely appeal to sophisticated customers loyal to her eccentricities.
“When you think about it, you never really know who buys your pieces when you work in series. Today, I know my customers and I can offer them exclusive and original pieces. The immersion at the heart of creation that Bijorhca provides is so precious, because it allows me to create in a more inspired way. And, ultimately, to feel closer to those who wear my jewelry.”
