The RUN showroom, a go-to destination for a Japanese buyer

At Premiere Classe, the RUN x ANDAM showroom is where Asano Miyazaki comes to source the latest European gems.

In Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, the Isetan Mitsukoshi department store is a mecca for European fashion enthusiasts. And Asano Miyazaki, a buyer for the store’s Paris office, knows something about it. She’s the one who walks the aisles of Premiere Classe every season to refine the store’s selection.

This time, the RUN showroom of the trade show was the highlight of her visit. A hybrid platform launched by WSN, RUN combines retail showrooms, fashion shows and event production. At Premiere Classe, it showcases the boldest brands of ready-to-wear and accessories – precisely those that Asano Miyazaki seeks out.

Inside the avant-garde

“When visiting RUN, you really get a sense of designer fashion, even more than the one you find at Premiere Classe, which is already very edgy”
Asano Miyazaki

With over 20 years’ experience, she knows potential when she sees it. It’s no coincidence that she praises the work of WSN,  and the curation of the showroom. They share the same perspective on cutting-edge fashion with very specific criteria, including fabric, shape, and above all, a designer’s background.

This season, the Dutch designer Cem Cinar caught her attention. He is based in Paris and cut his teeth at Y/Project and Rick Owens before launching his own brand. “I’m interested in his career path, because these are brands that have been successful at Isetan” she says, speaking of the store’s customer base, whose fashion culture relies on an attention to shape and function, as well as a European approach to design.

A cosmopolitan look from Tokyo to Paris

Asano Miyazaki curates her selection with this dual perspective, while also addressing criteria such as climate and delivery. “Winter is cold in Japan, but deliveries usually arrive in August and September, when the weather is still warm. I look for products that can work for winter but still have some lightness in them.

A Premiere Classe – and now RUN – regular, she considers Paris the number one destination to meet the needs of the Japanese market.

“There’s no need to fly to New York, London or Milan. The best of these cities’ designers is available in Paris, and can fit a single budget. It really is the centre of the fashion world.”
