Kubbick’s eye for on-trend objects
The French distributor Kubbick chose Shoppe Object Paris to present a selection of new products for independent retailers.
Bringing together the design and lifestyle worlds, Shoppe Object Paris is becoming a new meeting point for the creative industries. Among the exhibitors at this first edition, Kubbick stands out for its sharp eye for new products. The company discovers and selects objects that combine design and innovation. In partnership with Ankorstore, the platform that connects brands with independent retailers, Kubbick facilitates access to a selection of unique products. We spoke with Gilles Cohen, one of the co-founders, on the stand.
Can you tell us about the story behind Kubbick?
Kubbick began as an idea between two partners, Olivier and me, who are cousins. In the beginning we worked with a B2C model focused on connected objects such as smart scales, sports watches and drones. Very quickly we realized that B2C was not working particularly well. However, one product we identified turned out to be a real success among concept stores: a small connected key finder. We then became the distributor for that brand, Chipolo.
After that, other brands approached us to distribute their products. That is when Kubbick began to evolve, developing a distribution activity for concept stores, department stores, gift and décor shops as well as bookstores.
How would you describe Kubbick’s universe today?
Kubbick is all about discovering new products. The idea is to spark impulse purchases with objects that are trendy, visually appealing, useful in everyday life or highly decorative. These are products you wouldn’t typically find in large retail chains.
What we do, and what we have always done, is identify new brands for our clients. Bringing something new to retailers is really part of our DNA. In turn, it allows them to offer different products to their own customers, whether they operate physical stores or online shops.
Why has Ankorstore become such an essential tool for you?
First and foremost, Ankorstore allows us to reach retailers we might not otherwise have worked with. It is also a real time saver when it comes to order processing. Automated order entry and direct transfers make day to day sales much easier.
Today, Ankorstore represents an important additional revenue stream for Kubbick. It is a sales channel that requires very little effort on our side. Our role is mainly about managing the platform and showcasing the products, rather than handling traditional sales management. That allows us to focus on larger accounts.
What made you want to take part in Shoppe Object Paris?
The market is very dynamic at the moment and clearly looking for renewal and new retail experiences. Our presence at Shoppe Object also builds on an earlier experience in New York, where we had already exhibited. That’s where we first discovered the design fair.
Taking part in Shoppe Object Paris felt like a natural way to complement the clientele we reach through other trade fairs. It’s also an opportunity to meet retailers who are not necessarily part of our usual network. We see real potential among visitors, especially those working in textiles or accessories. For them, our products can offer complementary items or help broaden their assortment. For us, it’s also an opportunity to expand our client base.
