Flos: a leading name in Italian design at Shoppe Object Paris
The renowned lighting brand joins the new salon in Paris to explore new perspectives.
Flos is never quite where you expect it to be. The Italian lighting house joins the first edition of Shoppe Object Paris with a clear intention: to connect with audiences it does not always reach directly. With the launch of the salon, WSN strengthens its presence in the worlds of design and lifestyle, creating an opportunity for Flos to engage with visitors from Who’s Next and the fashion industry, who approach interior design from a different angle.
A brand built alongside designers
“Flos was founded in the 1960s as a true laboratory of design thinking, working alongside major figures of industrial design such as the Castiglioni brothers, Tobia Scarpa, and Gino Sarfatti,” explains Caroline Setbon, Flagship Store and Soft Contract Manager, PR and Marketing Coordinator, who is representing the brand at the stand during the show.
This collaborative spirit has given rise to pieces that have become iconic, but above all to a way of thinking about light that never separates form, function and emotion. A legacy that continues to inform the brand’s contemporary creations today and resonates naturally with the spirit of Shoppe Object Paris, at the intersection of design and lifestyle.
Light as a way of living
Today, Flos embodies a holistic vision of design, where light plays a central role in shaping spaces, from residential interiors and retail environments to galleries and more technical projects. Alongside its signature decorative lighting, the brand has developed strong expertise in architectural lighting, including spotlights, track systems, integrated solutions and bespoke projects. Each solution is conceived to structure space as a whole. This approach is built on close collaboration with an international network of designers. “Our research and development are constantly challenged by designers’ ideas. They push us continuously, not only in terms of aesthetics, but also in terms of design, innovation and lighting performance,” notes Caroline Setbon. At Flos, light is never a simple accessory. It gives a space its soul and helps create a true sensory experience.
An entry point into the Flos universe
At Shoppe Object Paris, Flos adopts a broader approach. The show becomes an entry point into its universe, an opportunity to connect with visitors from fashion, accessories and lifestyle, who may not always encounter major design brands in their usual environment.
“At Flos, the idea is to show that design can speak to all worlds. You can enter the brand through iconic pieces, but also through more accessible objects, without ever compromising on design standards,” explains Caroline Setbon.
While widely known for its iconic chandeliers and floor lamps, Flos highlights here pieces designed for everyday use and for concept stores, such as Bon Jour by Philippe Starck, Mayday by Konstantin Grcic, or Lampadina by the Castiglioni brothers, where function remains at the heart of the design process.
Bon Jour in pastel tones, a nod to fashion
For the event, Flos chose to spotlight Bon Jour, designed by Philippe Starck, as a piece particularly suited to boutiques and concept stores, whether in fashion, accessories, books, or small objects. Elegant and timeless, it was among the brand’s first battery-powered lamps and has since become a classic. Recently reworked to be more accessible, the lamp retains the design rigour that defines Flos. Presented here in three pastel shades, Bon Jour naturally echoes the worlds of fashion and accessories.
This collaboration is part of a long-standing relationship between Flos and Philippe Starck. As early as the mid-1980s, the brand entrusted him with Miss Sissi, a polycarbonate lamp whose bold approach was striking at the time. The success was immediate: 8,000 pieces sold in 10 days and more than 100,000 within a year, according to the brand’s archives. At Shoppe Object Paris, Flos once again shows that when design is right, it naturally belongs everywhere.
